20th April: Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka won the Monte Carlo Masters Tennis title on 20 April . He defeated Roger Federer (Switzerland) in the Men’s singles final. With this, the 29-year-old Wawrinka has won his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title. On the other hand the Doubles trophy was won by America’s Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike. They defeated Ivan Dodig ( Croatia) and Marcel Melo (Brazil) in the final.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese F1 Grand Prix on 20 April 2014. With this win Great Britain’s Hamilton won three races in a row for the first time in his career. His Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg (Germany) was second while third spot was claimed by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso of Spain. Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg (Germany) was sixth.
21st April Supreme Court lifted a 19 month oldban on mining in Goa.

27 April 2014 Justice RM Lodha Sworn In As New Chief Justice of India
Justice RM Lodha was on 27 April sworn in as the new Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee. Chief Justice Lodha succeeds Chief Justice P Sathasivam who demitted office on completion of his term on 26 April 2014. Lodha will preside over the Supreme Court for five months as his term will come to an end 27 September, 2014.
Popes John Paul II and John XXIII Declared Saints In Double Canonisation
John XXIII and John Paul II were canonized on 27 April by the Pope Francis at the Vatican on 27 April. Pope John XIII reigned from 1958-1963 and is perceived as a hero by the liberal Catholics for having convened the Second Vatican Council. Pope John Paul II had reigned from 1978-2005. The event was also attended by retired Pope Benedict XVI which was seen as an unprecedented event in Vatican’s history.
