Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for appointment of Junior Research Fellows (JRFs)
• Number of Positions: 22
• Place of Work: Any of the Regional Centres/Offices of BSI at Itanagar, Shillong, Gangtok, Howrah, Kolkata, Allahabad, Noida, Dehradun, Jodhpur, Pune, Hyderabad, Port Blair and Coimbatore. Appointed Junior Research Fellows may be shifted from his/her initial working place to another place of work, if necessary.
• Fellowship Amount: The appointed JRFs will be paid a fixed fellowship of Rs. 12,000/- per month (likely to be increased) plus admissible House Rent Allowance as per their place of working in the offices of BSI mentioned above. They will also be entitled to get an annual contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- and admissible Medical Benefits as per extant rules of BSI. The JRFs will not be entitled to any other benefits during and after expiry of their fellowship tenure. Junior Research Fellowship in BSI is purely temporary. Mere appointment as Junior Research Fellow doesn’t confer any right, implicit or explicit, for consideration for regularization or absorption in BSI as an employee.
• Duration of Fellowship: The Junior Research Fellows will be appointed initially for 2 years and, if found suitable,
may be appointed for another 3 years as Senior Research Fellows.
• Essential Qualification: At the time of submitting the application the applicant should essentially possess a minimum 2nd class Masters degree in Botany awarded by a UGC recognized university.
• Desirable Qualification: NET or GATE qualified or M. Phil degree in Taxonomy or Plant-systematics of any group of plants with working knowledge in computer.
• Age Limit: The upper age limit for general male candidate and general female candidate is 25 years and 30 years respectively on the closing date for receipt of applications (Relaxable by 5 years for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Physically Handicapped candidates and by 3 years for Other Backward Class candidates). Applications made strictly as per format given below with attested photocopies of marksheets, birth certificate, residential certificate, SC/ST/OBC/PH certificate, latest passport sized coloured photograph (pasted on application form) and account payee demand draft (DD) of Rs. 400/- (Rs. 200/- for OBC applicants, Rs. 100/- for SC/ST/PH applicants) drawn in favour of ‘Accounts Officer, PAO (BSI/ZSI), Kolkata’ should reach Director, BSI in a sealed envelope by speed post at above mentioned address within 30 days [45 days for applicants residing in North Eastern States, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Ladakh Division of Jammu & Kashmir and Chamba (Pangi Sub Division) and Lahul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh] from the date of publication in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar. Envelope containing application should be superscribed as ‘APPLICATION FOR JRF’. Candidates must send a self-addressed post-card, along with application. Applications received after the due date, unsigned applications, incomplete applications, applications not in prescribed proforma and applications without DD will not be considered. BSI will conduct a written test followed by an oral examination at Howrah, Shillong, Dehradun and Coimbatore. Candidates appearing for written test/interview will be entitled for sleeper class or second class railway fare or ordinary bus fare on production of valid tickets. BSI reserves the right not to fill any position, if it so decides. No correspondence will be entertained either in regard to the call for written test/interview and/or selection. Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
